Most Wadi Rum itineraries online are written by people who spent six hours here. We grew up here. Below is what actually fits in 1, 2, or 3 days — with real timings, not the polished kind.
Short answer: 1 day is a taste, 2 days is the sweet spot, 3 days is when the desert starts to make sense.
The 1-Day Itinerary (Day Trip)
If you're coming from Petra, Aqaba, or Amman and leaving the same night, expect the desert to feel rushed. It still beats skipping it.
- 09:30 — Arrive at Wadi Rum Visitor Centre. Pay the 5 JOD reserve fee. Meet your guide.
- 10:00 — Half-day jeep tour begins. Lawrence Spring, Khazali Canyon, red sand dune, Um Fruth rock bridge, Lawrence House ruins.
- 13:00 — Bedouin lunch at a shaded camp (tea, bread, tomato-cheese-egg pan).
- 14:00 — Optional: 1-hour camel ride or short hike up Burdah area.
- 16:30 — Sunset viewpoint. Don't skip this. The rocks turn orange-red for ~30 minutes.
- 18:00 — Drive back out. Done.
You miss the stars and the silence. That's the real Wadi Rum. Full jeep tour breakdown here.
The 2-Day / 1-Night Itinerary (Recommended)
This is what we recommend to 80% of guests. One night is enough to do the desert properly without losing momentum on the rest of your Jordan trip.
Day 1
- 13:00 — Arrive Visitor Centre. Drop bags at camp.
- 14:00 — Half-day jeep tour: canyons, dunes, rock bridges, petroglyphs.
- 17:30 — Sunset on a high ridge.
- 19:30 — Zarb dinner at camp (slow-cooked underground meat, rice, vegetables).
- 21:00 — Around the fire. Bedouin tea, oud, stargazing.
Day 2
- 05:30 — Sunrise from camp or a short walk up the nearest dune. Cold, quiet, unforgettable.
- 07:30 — Breakfast.
- 09:00 — Camel ride back toward the village (1-2 hours) or a short hike.
- 11:30 — Check out. Drive to Aqaba (1h) or Petra (1h45).
The 3-Day / 2-Night Itinerary (For the Curious)
This is when Wadi Rum stops being a stop and becomes a place.
Day 1
Same as Day 1 above — jeep tour, sunset, Zarb, fire.
Day 2 (the slow day)
- Sunrise hike up Jebel Khazali.
- Full-day deep desert jeep — Burdah Rock Bridge (the high one, 2-hour hike up), Abu Khashaba canyon, areas tourists never reach.
- Lunch under an acacia tree, prepared by your guide.
- Move camp or return — sunset from a different ridge.
Day 3
- Optional hot air balloon at dawn (seasonal).
- Or a Jebel Um Adaami climb — Jordan's highest peak, 4 hours round trip.
- Check out by midday.
What It Costs (Per Person, JOD)

How to Actually Do This
- Pick your nights, not your days. Wadi Rum is sold per night, not per day. One night = 2 days here.
- Book direct. OTAs add 30-50%. We're at suncitycamp.com.
- Arrive after 12:00, before 15:00. Early enough for the jeep tour, late enough that you didn't waste a morning driving.
- Don't overschedule Day 2. If you have Petra the next day, leave Wadi Rum by 11:00. The drive is 1h45.
- Bring layers. Even in summer, nights drop to 15°C. In winter, near freezing.

No. You miss the night sky, the Zarb dinner, and the sunrise. Those are the three best parts.

March-May and September-November. Full season breakdown here.
Can I do Wadi Rum and Petra in the same day?
You can. You'll regret it. Pick one to do well.
